Dear Mike and Merlene,
Congratulations! You have been recommended by Brigham Young University’s China Teachers Program to teach at Qingdao University, in Qingdao, China, for the academic year 2009-2010. We are optimistic that the university will accept you. Many careful and prayerful hours have been spent studying applications, working with our contacts in China, and visiting with potential teachers in order to match them with the needs of each Chinese university. Now that you have been recommended, we will await the decision of the Chinese University to accept you. They will let us know of their decision us via email, hopefully by April 30th. ( They did on March 13th!!) We will let you know as soon as we hear from them. At that time, we will send you more details, including:
● A brief description of your university.
● The name and email address of your contact or “waiban” at the university.
● The names and email addresses of current China teachers at the university (Jane & Roger Halladay!).
● Directions and forms for getting necessary physical examinations and work visas.
● The China Teachers Handbook. As soon as you learn of your acceptance, you should:
● Contact the waiban (officer) of your university.
● Schedule your physical examinations.
● Contact other teachers to learn more about your university and city. We know that you are anxious. As soon as we hear something, you will be contacted. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact Kirk and Midge Evans, CTP facilitators, by email or by phone (801-422-5321) if you have any questions. Again, congratulations. We look forward to having you as a part of the China Teachers Program. It should be a great year.
