Birthday Week

Early in the week last week we went to visit some people who have been inactive for over 20 years because they were offended by a Bishop.  In my opinion they deserved to be offended but the sad thing is that they have not had the blessing of the gospel in their lives because they let that keep them from activity even when they lived different places.  She opened up to me and told me that she realized that she was hurting herself not the offender by her inactivity.  I invited them to come over Friday evening with three active couples so that they could know a few people when they did come back to church.  They came and we had a nice time.  She said that she wasn't ready to make the move yet, however so we'll see what she decides.

After everyone left Mike left the house to run to the store.  When he came back he had these beautiful roses for me for Valentines Day.  They are so pretty and I have enjoyed them so much.
The next night we hosted a dinner for the missionaries serving in and around Eugene.  There were fourteen of us and it was fun to visit.  We are the only couple of the seven that are Member Leader Support missionaries. Two couples work at Camp Alpine about 45 miles NW of here and the other 4 work at the office.

On Sunday after Church we drove up to Corvallis and spent the night and next day with our friends Cherrie and Dave Blake.  They live about a block from the Willamette River and we went out walking along the area twice.  We also drove all over the town and through the Oregon State University Campus.

That is Mount Jefferson that you can see in the distance.

Lanny had called to say hello last week and told me that Carl had moved to Corvallis, Oregon.  He did not know that it was in our mission or that we would be going there in just a few days but I contacted Carl and arranged for him to come to the Chinese New Years Party that was being held at the Oregon State University Institute.  Our missionaries had invited us to join them there.  It was great to catch up some with him.  Carl's real estate agent is the mother of his son McKay's roommate in Provo.  She was at the party.  It just so happens that that mother is the mother-in-law of the daughter of the couple that we were staying with.  It is such a crazy small world sometimes.

Following are a few pictures from the party.  I think they were expecting around 100 people and fed over 150.  There was a little Chinese entertainment and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Mike tried to look for a birthday gift for me several times as we went different places but just couldn't find anything he thought I would like.  He finally said, "You'll have to go shopping with me to get you a birthday gift."  I simplified things and shopped on line.  I want a casual, slip on fast dress to wear when we have been working in slacks all day at the food pantry but we have a meeting or some place that I need to wear a dress.  Of course I had to order some jeans and a top that were on sale while I was at it.
