We were taken up the Shennog river in a motorized sanpan and then were taken on sanpans by local farmers. When there is not enough water they run up the hills and pull the boats with ropes.

Looks like another interesting trip. We've watched shows on the three gorges dam before. That is pretty amazing stuff. Sorry you didn't get the break you were hoping for :)
