Catching Up a Bit!

When we went to Cedar City, about a month ago we were meeting friends for dinner in what used to be the old train depot.  There was a craft/antique store in part of the building and out in front there were two quite ugly, dark stained and heavily lacquered chairs with beat up seats. One was wired to keep it solid. We only have 5 matching chairs for our dining room set and three different "spares".  We determined that those chairs looked quite like the one spare which is a nice, solid armchair.  We bought them and have spent many hours stripping it and them, sanding them, staining them and putting a finish on them.  I went to NPS in SLC and found some upholstery fabric for a great price. We ordered foam for the cushions and then hand to drive to Spanish Fork for more but we are happy with the result and it is nice to have them finished before I leave for Colorado.

We have had a fun last week with friends and family.  On Friday our friends, the Carters, that we have traveled with and were at Heber Valley Camp with, came down and spent a good part of the day.  It was so much fun to catch up a bit.  We went to Spring City to Das cafe and had a wonderful lunch and then drove around Spring City.  We went to the home that Shirley's daughter and husband are building that is magnificent.  It is built from the beams and frame of an old barn from New York and they have spared nothing in making it a treasure.  The builders were there and showed us around and shared some of the special things about the place.  We came back here and visited and I had made cinnamon rolls so we snacked and talked some more.

Our friends the Lee's got back from their mission to Okinowa (sp) and they came over for a visit on Saturday after they were released and then we invited them to share Sunday dinner with us.

On Monday Mike's daughter, Karen, and her husband Joel came to visit.  They spent Monday and Tuesday nights with us.  Mike took them up to Fairview to the museum while I put the last coat on the chairs and then we drove around and ended up at the Mexican place for dinner.  (Of course we ate lots of other great meals, too.  My favorite was WW Belgium sourdough waffles that Mike made.  I made raspberry syrup, we had fresh picked raspberries from our garden and we had whipped cream on top.

I think it was a good visit for both Mike and Karen.  I really like her husband Joel.  She has MS and requires lots of attention and patience and he seems to willing to give it to her.  She commented many times about ways that she is like her dad.

On Wednesday our friends, the McAllisters invited us and the Lee's to go the the Mexican restraunt with them so that we could catch up and visit.  (The six of us have FHE once a month with dinner and it was great to visit again.)

Today we met our friends, the Normans, in Payson and went through a temple session and then went out for lunch.  They were with us in China and lived in Mt Pleasant for a short time before we went.  They have been called as Temple President and matron at the temple in Guatamela. (sp)

I didn't get this posted on the blog but think I should.  It was taken on the day of Lafe's funeral at the chapel in Pleasant Grove.

This isn't the best picture of Mary but the best group picture and MIKE IS SMILING!
