April 7 Maui

The ship spent the night just outside Kahului and we were on Maui again for a second days stay.

This time we went the other direction and visited the areas to the north and west.  We first went to Lahaina and saw the condos and tourist area there.  We stopped at a fun farmers market and tasted different vegetables, fruits and cheeses.  Then we went to Banyan Tree park.  It was unbelievable how the one tree covered a whole block.

 Next we took a long drive on up the coastline.  The first area was very heavily populated with condos and hotels but the further north we drove the windier the road and less populated.  We drove through a coffee plantation which was interesting.  I had no idea how coffee plants looked.

The road that goes up the island eventually is blocked for rental cars because it becomes a rough, dirt road.  We didn't go that far but we did get up to where it narrows with lots of switch backs.

Once we got back to Lahaini we drove to Leoda's for sandwiches and pie.  I got Chocolate Macadamia and Mike got Coconut Creme.  They were worth their reputation. After a lovely day we headed back to the ship ready to set sail for Hilo on the Big Island.
