Our goal for the morning was to drive to Waitomo Glow Wormcaves. Char and Dave thought that they had found a road along the coastline that we could take to get there so we decided to take it. We turned around after a while when someone told us that we could get there on the dirt road that we were driving on but it might take us about 12 hours. The drive was wonderful and the pictures of this huge drop off don't begin to give it justice.
Eventually we made it to the Waitomo Caves!
We looped back in a NE direction to Tongariro National Park. The scenery was just beautiful. Many trees were in bloom with large purple flowers.
Our minds were blown with the unbelievable green rolling hills filledwith either cattle or sheep. You may get a few pictures of similar shots most days.
It was interesting to see that the terrain changed as we got closer to the park. It was almost desert like as we saw the first of the three volcanos in the park.
It was amazing to look so closely at a live volcano.
The three volcanoes in the National Park are Mt Ruapetu, Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro. We stayed here, at the Bayview Chateau Tongario.
We stayed in the fanciest place on the trip this night. The hotel was elegant, the food was wonderful and I felt like royalty:)
