Day One- New Zealand

We arrived at the Auckland Airport about 6:30 AM and rented a 12 seat van.  Lanny had experience driving "on the wrong side of the road" so he became the first driver.  We went downtown Auckland to the hotel where Char and Dave were staying and picked them up.  We decided that since we were so close we would take the opportunity to go up into the Sky Tower and look at the city from above.  We went up to the Main Observation Deck which is 610 feet high.  It is the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand with views up to 52 miles in every direction. The elevator took only 40 seconds to climb the distance that would take someone about 24 minutes to climb.
This is a model of the sky tower that is on the main floor of the building.
Here are pictures of Auckland that I took from the tower.  Char and I were impressed by the number of yachts in the fifth picture.  Auckland is a beautiful city.

After we checked into our motel in Hamilton and had dinner we drove out to Temple View and got to attend a session in the New Zealand Temple.  It was a special treat for us because Mom and Dad had served there at the visitors center years ago.
