We got back into the USA and headed for Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park. Because of the shut down we were unable to visit the park but we were very grateful that we started the trip in the direction that we did. We saw lots of pretty waterfront and scenery but couldn't have done Boston with things shut down. It was interesting that things were never in the full, famous color on the area but had we come any later many things would have been shut down for the season.
We did get some good pictures where the color was starting to change. New England is FULL of antique shops and flea markets. Many had shut down for the season but we were able to satisfy a bit of Shirley's love for them.
This place had three floors and went on and on and on. Shirley found some art books that she had mailed to her and other trinkets were found, too.
Bar Harbor is named for Bar Island which provides an natural harbor in Frenchman's bay. It has been attracting visitors since the 1800's and many prominent families vacationed there. It is very much a tourist place with expensive places to eat and to buy things.
is a famous summer colony in the Down East region of Maine. We splurged because we found a Noah's ark in a place called "In the
Woods". It is fun to bring one home to remember this trip from. The hall is not wide enough for me to get the whole picture and we need to do some wall repair but this gives an idea of Mike's clever two shelf display.
Although our B & B was nice it was far from exceptional and the most expensive room on the trip. In this season I am sure that you could have found many places that were cheaper and possibly nicer.
