After breakfast in our hotel the hotel driver took us to the Anderson Train Station where we caught a train into downtown Boston. We caught a tour trolly right at the train station and our first stop was Faneuil Hall.
This hall has been a market place and meeting hall since 1742. There was a ceremony for the Boston Police taking place on the third floor on the day that we were there. We were lucky enough to get in a walking tour with a very knowledgable US Park service tour guide for about an hours tour. He made it so interesting and helped to tie pieces of history together for me. (We are grateful that we didn't take our tour backwards or all of these places and people would be presently closed and out of work for the shut down.)
One of the things that he taught us about was the Old State House. After our walk with him we got back on to our on-and-off trolly and took quite a long ride around Boston and listened to a rather annoying but informational tour guide. When we got off again we were by the Paul Revere home.
We were very happy to see our same morning tour guide with a group near there so we joined him and learned the true story about Paul Revere and the old North Church.
The signal was one if by and and two if by sea to warn the patriots the movement of the British.
This lady is punching ink on the type in an old printing press where each letter had to be inserted. It was quite an operation just to do one page.
We made an unwise decision of walking rather than catching our trolley again and walked up to the USS Constitution. We were not only exhausted but they closed at 5:00 so we only had time to walk around it rather than hear a narrator.
We caught the trolley back to our train and had a good Italian dinner that night at a spot across from our hotel in Woburn, MA.
