Connecticut, Western Mass. and into Bennington, VT

We left Rhode Island and drove west into Connecticut after breakfast and drove up a country road through the towns of Canterbury, Pomfret, Brooklyn and Woodstock.  It was just as I imagined that it would be with rolling hills and beautiful, peaceful scenery.  The road was two lane with no shoulder to speak of so we couldn't find places to take pictures.  I have pulled a few from the web to remember the look.  Although the fall color hadn't really changed yet we did see it here and there.

We went from Conn into Western Mass and drove on the scenic highways listed on the map.  The major one was called the Mohawk Trail.  We were lucky enough to decide to pull off the road and turn into the town of Shelburne Falls, Mass. The falls of the Deerfield River ran across the most interesting rocks.

Running between the towns of Shelburne and Buckland, is a 400-foot bridge that was built in 1908 as a trolley bridge.  It was abandoned when the trolley line ended in 1928.  In 1929 the Woman's club turned it into the Bridge of Flowers.  We were there close to the end of the season but it was still amazing. They have over 500 varieties of annuals and perennials.

Just before we left Mass we topped a hill and saw this beautiful valley.  Sadly we were a few weeks early for the color but you can imagine what it would look like in full color. 

We spent the night in Bennington, VT.  I had located a city walk to take and some covered bridges to see but we were all too exhausted to do the walk.  We drove past some of the listed places and then saw three of the covered bridges.
