Port Clyde & Monhegan Island

We woke up early and decided to go on a walk down to the lighthouse.  We were told that it was about a mile's walk so we took off around the tip of the cape.
We passed this beautiful home that also had a widow's watch on the top as we walked along.

 It was early light when we got there. The light in the lighthouse was still lit. 

              

              After Lanny and Shirley woke up and we had breakfast we drove down there.
              We saw it from our boat  as we sailed toward Monhegan Island.

We had paid ahead of time for boat tickets out to Monhegan Island.  It is a fairly large island that is apparently an artist colony and hike lovers world in the summer.  We could quickly tell that the season was over since our boat holds 140 and reservations are suggested and we had about 40 on board.  We had to chose from catching the return boat which only gave us a little over an hour there and staying until 4:30 and getting to our next place later in the evening.  Had the weather been warmer or more life in the village I think we would have opted to stay until later as I had arranged for on the tickets but we hurried through, didn't see enough but caught the return boat to Port Clyde.

                          We passed the Wyeth summer homes on our boat trip to the island. 

The reading that I had done said that there weren't cars or roads on the island but that isn't so.  In fact the few that were there were rather annoying because they were constantly on the little roadways and the walkers would have to move off. 

Notice the name of the Lobster Company.  No wonder I was covered with bites. ^0^

This is actually a picture of a poster that was in the ticket office for the ferry.  I thought that my sheep farmer friends might get a kick out of it.
