We spent most of the day in a Shelburn Museum which is a 45 acre museum with 37 different buildings. There were beautiful old mansions filled with art work like Monet and Cassatt paintings, one entire museum filled with works of the three generations of Wyeth paintings, but also buildings that demonstrate the past. There was a sawmill, a double lane covered bridge, a school house, a church, a mammoth barn full of wagons, carriages, stagecoaches, sleighs and a variety of horse drawn items. There was a light house a blacksmith, print and weaving shop (all with people demonstrating the art). There was a toy shop full of toys of the past, a jail, a stagecoach inn, a steamboat and on and on. Some of the very interesting collections for me was a hooked rug display of a current artist, Patty Yoder, a giant quilt (must have been 50' long) and an apothecary that had been collected from three apothecaries from the past. We hurried into Burlington and out to our B & B which I will cover in the next post and then returned to Burlington. Mike and I took a walk down to Lake Champlain while Shirley and Lanny waited to meet her grandson, wife and new baby and her granddaughter at a Crepe place. Shirley was in seventh heaven holding that little baby girl.
