Halifax, Bridgewater, Lunenburg, St John

It was raining most of the day when we drove to Halifax and so we were unable to do the things that I had on our "to-do" list.  We did see the Pier 21 which has a huge farmers market and shops for the cruise ships but we didn't visit the sites in town or take the ferry to Dartmouth, as suggested.  We drove over to Bridgewater and stayed in the nicest Best Western Plus that we saw on the trip.

We saw some beautiful spots between Liscomb and Halifax before it really started to pour.

Sadly we had little time in Lunenburg which is a place where you could spend days.  We had to leave by noon to be in Digby to catch the only ferry to St John at 4 PM.

We were able to take pictures of the Bluenose (it was closed to tourists).  Lanny was excited because that is the ship that he made a model of that is in his living room.  After paying admission to the museum we were able to walk through two boats that were a part of the museum and see some of the aquarium on the first floor.  We didn't have time to see the movies or other floors.

Because Lunenburg was such a wonderful sea port many wealthy sea captains had homes in the city.
I took a few pictures of the homes but we basically were too close to take many pictures as we drove by.  I had taken this picture of a poster in one of our B&B's that shows just some of the elegant windows and doorways.
Here are some homes and the St John's Anglican church.

We drove from Lunenburg to Digby and got in line for the ferry to St John.  It was hard to imagine how many large, loaded semi-trucks and cars got onto it. This picture is blurry but gives an idea what the vehicle layer is like.
I tried several times to catch this beautiful sunset just as we were entering the harbor at St John.

We were on the ferry for about 3 hours and then landed in St John where we had a reservation at a Best Western Plus.  It was at this point that another tender mercy took place.
We drove off the ferry and our GPS still wasn't working because we were still in Canada.  We saw some young people walking with a baby stroller near a church parking lot so we pulled in and asked them for directions.  They didn't recognize the street but did recognize the picture of the hotel that I had in my book.  They tried to give us directions but there were so many different things that we were confused.  Just then a lady drove up in a blue pick up (the kids must have called her) and started to tell, asked if we had paper to write it down and then simply told us to follow her.  It was probably a 25 minute drive and I'm not sure we would ever have found it without her help.  We all felt very blessed for that one and grateful for her sacrifice and helpfulness.
